The British Heart Foundation are supporting Restart A Heart Day 2018. Held on Tuesday, 16th October, the aim of the day is to promote vital and life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills.

Heart Attacks – The Facts

  • Someone in the UK has a heart attack approximately every 7 minutes.
  • There are more than 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. Around 3,000 of these happen in the workplace.
  • The overall survival rate of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is less than 1 in 10.
  • CPR used with a defibrillator (AED) increases the chances of survival from around 6% to 74%.

The South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has recently opened a new Professional Skills Centre, located within the CITB premises in Nutts Corner, and they have made an AED available in case of a cardiac emergency.

Cosaint Training provided both CITB and SERC staff with CPR and AED training, to ensure employees were confident in how to deal with someone having a heart attack, and how to effectively work the AED equipment.
