Risk assessment is at the heart of safety management and if you are an employer or self-employed you must assess the health and safety risks arising from work activities.
A risk assessment is simply a careful examination of what, in your work, could cause harm to people, so that you can weigh up whether you have enough precautions or whether you should do more.
This qualification is designed to be an introduction to the principles of Risk Assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to risk assessments, and simple processes for carrying out a risk assessment.
This course is suitable for learners working in any environment, who need to be more risk aware, by raising their knowledge of risk in the workplace and basic things they can do to control it. By the end of this course trainees will be able to:
- State the purposes for, and benefits of, using a risk assessment approach to the management of health and safety.
- State the basic principles of risk assessment and stages involved in carrying out risk assessments in practice.
- State the key legislative requirements on risk assessment.
- Carry out, record, monitor and review risk assessments within their own working environment, (subject to possession of the necessary technical knowledge and skills).
